i thought this would be of note to all the parents out there. my sister was always into the slack now/pay later, quick fix method of education and was constantly pestering my parents to get her tutors. she found some great ones through word-of-mouth, and the endorsements were genuine as nobody was making commission on the transaction.
seriously, hiring grade 12 kids to pimp your seminar out to their classmates for commission?
Don't get me going on math tutors. My daughter is struggling (which pisses me off, I thought she got MY math brain, not her dad's) and I've been working with her on it.
So far this year she has come home quoting her teacher on Kumon about 8 times and Sylvan 4. I used to work for a psychologist in Vcr that worked with learning disabilities, and I know what a crock they can be. It's not that they don't address the issue, it's that they "hook" the kid on "needing" that help long after solving the underlying problem.
Having paid attention to the psychologist & the teachers (one of them a very dear friend) I can save bundles and still have my daughter pass math.
Your post makes me wonder if Kumon & Sylvan offer referring teachers some kind of commission.
Hmmmmmmmm
